Title Enterococcus infantis sp. nov., isolated from the faeces of an infant with atopic dermatitis.
Journal Int J Syst Evol Microbiol
Abstract A Gram-positive, coccal-shaped organism, designated AD013-P3T, was isolated from the stool specimen of a 10-month-old male infant with atopic dermatitis (AD). The phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain AD013-P3T was most closely related to Enterococcus diestrammenae (98.7%) and Enterococcus asini (97.8%). Genomic comparisons using pairwise average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization analyses between strain AD013-P3T and E. diestrammenae JCM 18359T resulted in values of 75.4-80.4% and 22.1%, respectively. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain AD013-P3T was 43.5 mol%. Strain AD013-P3T is distinguishable from other established Enterococcus species both phylogenetically and phenotypically. Based on the data presented, strain AD013-P3T represents a novel species of the genus Enterococcus, for which the name Enterococcus infantis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AD013-P3T (=NBRC 117136T=BCRC 81462T).
